Ambitious Adventures With Greg Rollett

Episode Summary

Greg Rollett is a Best-Selling Author and Marketing Expert who works with experts, authors and entrepreneurs all over the world. He utilizes the power of new media, direct response and personality-driven marketing to attract more clients and to create more freedom in the businesses and lives of his clients. He is the CEO of Celebrity Expert Marketing. Greg started his business career when he chose to start a hip-hop record label as his senior project in high school. (He wanted to be like Master P.) At the time, people were comparing hip-hop labels to entrepreneurs, like they were the Mark Zuckerbergs of today. He signed himself as the first artist, obviously, along with his best friend. They called themselves Burglazz because they were the “poor” white kids at a very wealthy white school. When they went to parties at other students’ houses, they would steal small, insignificant items, hence the name Burglazz. They toured and “lived the glamorous life of a hip hop mogul” for about a decade. Greg moved from the music scene into information marketing and started teaching musicians how to book shows and make an actual living as a musician. He built an info business that was basically Marketing 101 but very niched into the music industry. At one point, his partner Nick Nanton asked him, instead of teaching musicians all this awesome stuff, why not teach people who have money all this awesome stuff? This led to www.celebritybrandingagency.com. They brand people, just like companies brand brands. So instead of branding things like Coca-Cola, they brand people like Brad, or Joe, or Suzie, or whoever and help them become a celebrity in their marketplace. Right now they bring some of the world's top experts into their studios in Orlando, FL where they teach free live classes centered around starting a business, growing a business, and using that business to live a more ambitious life. A “Freemium” education model. They are trying to break down the walls and get more people to see the good content. It's free if you watch it live, and then people can purchase access if they want to own the course. They have a great course coming up with Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, a co-founder of Gilt Group, valued at over a billion dollars. She sold her interest a couple years ago and now she's teaching women how to find their passion and grow their business. Greg has plenty of mega stars like that who teach for the course. They got bored with that, so they decided to do a TV show. Here are some great tips and facts: - The biggest thing Greg’s company fundamentally believes in is that the only true USP is you. The biggest differentiating factor that you have going for you at the end of the day is you. - People buy from people and they buy from people that they know, like, and trust - the more someone knows, likes and trusts you, the more clients you get, the higher fees that you can get, the better business you're going to have, and the better life you're going to have. - The easiest illustration of this is, why does a guy like Tony Robbins get a million dollars a year for coaching? Why do his events cost thousands to tens of thousands to attend, and Joe Shmoe down the street who teachers very, very similar strategies, goal setting and power-positive thinking and beliefs can't get $30 for his book. (Brad thinks it's because of Tony's height.) At the end of the day it's because he's Tony. He's larger than life. He has a presence, a personality. He has something infectious about him. He makes more money because of who he is, not necessarily what he does. - He's good at what he does but, at the same time, there are a lot of personal development teachers and trainers out there who will never get to the Tony Robbins level because they're not Tony. - Celebrity Branding tries to do everything in their power to help their clients who are in very competition-heavy, very commoditized markets to have their personalities shine and have that be the reason that people work with you. - They work with a lot of financial advisers, financial services, but A) no one trusts a financial adviser, and B) they're all hocking the same product, especially if they all work at a big house. So why should people trust them? You have to make a case for your story; for who you are; for why people should trust you. - The best way they know how to do that for people is through media - that is how we trust people. - So a lot of financial advisers might hate David Ramsey and Suze Orman – they don't like their strategies or whatever – but they've got a much bigger business than you. They’re making more money, they’re helping more people, they’re selling books, they’re selling out arenas all across the world. And the reason for that is Media. - David Ramsey is on the radio 15 hours a week. Suze Orman is on TV five nights a week. They take up so much of your mind space. - How often are you using media to tell your story, your positioning, your point-of-view, your perspective on things to your marketplace? - Greg uses books, TV, major magazines, newspapers, documentaries, etc. - They believe it’s about your personality but then you have to get people to know who you are and they do that through media. - The reason Brad does podcasts is to talk with awesome people about this kind of stuff and have a reason to record it and share it. Also, to build a degree of thought leadership, and exposure for himself. - Peter Diamandis, author of the books Bold and Abundance, has a 10x type mindset. When you look at growing your business exponentially, he has frameworks put in place that allow you to grow exponentially. (Instagram sold for $1 billion after only 18 months.) - Asked Greg, why don’t you just start your own network? Whoever owns it has the control. - He did it and got to learn from awesome people, and then they get to sell and monetize it. - It’s done like a morning show, but they also do live pitches for their products and services. - Greg is currently looking for people who help entrepreneurs start and grow businesses, or work on the personal development side. His focus is on entrepreneurs. - If you really want something, nowadays there’s really no excuse not to go for it – there are people out there who can fund it or build it. That’s crowd-funding and crowd-sourcing. -Getting pre-commitments from people, helps them know they’re almost guaranteeing their funding on the first day. -If you have a good story, tell your story. People will buy into it. They’ll buy into the hype. -With as much saturation as we think is out there, there’s still a huge opportunity for people to start blogs, podcasts, video shows, do live video, etc. Note: When doing interviews, don’t ask the same standard questions that everyone else asks your guest. Ask the things that you (and your audience) really want to know. - It’s not just about the newest trend. So if you suck at doing live video... don’t do live video. If you’re great at writing, start a blog. Find what you’re good at. - Spend money on production and to make it unique. - Don’t be scared to put your personality into it. If you sound like everyone else, then you’ll just get muddled in the crowd. Be yourself and stand out. - As you’re building media, really think about: what are your opinions of authority? What are the things you uniquely believe as facts, but that really are opinions, and beat them into people like it’s a religion. Greg is currently looking for people that can bring him into international markets. Teaching entrepreneurial skills to people in other countries can help their economies. If you’d like to work with Greg, you can contact Brad at askbrad@baconwrappedbusiness.com to get the ball rolling.
